The party pushed further into Cragmaw Castle in hopes of rescuing Gundren Rockseeker. Splitting up, they defeated the castle’s guardians and confronted Grol, the leader of the castle. Grol was quickly dispatched and a drow who was sent to retrieve Rockseeker from Grol instead bought her safety from the party with a bag of gold. Rockseeker was alive but in bad shape and asked the party to take him back to Phandalin.
On their way out of the castle the group was accosted by a returning hobgoblin warband. They negotiated a truce with the Hobgoblin leader and proceeded back to Phandalin. As they neared town, they saw a white dragon circling. By the time they made it to town the dragon was gone, but the town had sustained a lot of damage. Now safe, Rockseeker offered the party a share in his mine if they would help pacify it. Rockseeker asked for time to heal before venturing to wave echo cave so the party decided to travel to Waterdeep at the behest of Halia Thornton. Halia’s contact in Waterdeep could send reinforcements to help protect the town since the party killed the Redbrands.
One the way to Waterdeep the party returned to Cragmaw castle to purge the Hobgoblins they had left behind.
