The Lens agents braced themselves as the flock of griffon riders circled round the bell tower for another assault. El and Cylan made quick work of the griffon rider that had landed on the tower while Endrin, Nyx, Triple J, and Brett Miller took pot shots at the other surrounding griffons. Fir managed to dismount a rider that landed near him, rendering the rider defenseless and clinging to edge of the bell tower. Malcolm and Eris focused their attacks on the, still airborne, Cerberus mage. Eris’ resolute charisma prevented her from being banished as she, in turn, dealt a mighty blow to the mage, launching the mage from the griffin’s back and sending her plummeting to the street below. In pursuit, Malcolm leapt to a nearby rooftop and then slipped and fell to the structure’s base. The fighter arrived but a moment too late as the mage was whisked away by another Griffon rider. Angered, the mage rolled back her sleeves, revealing heavily scarred and tattooed arms. The markings on her arms began to glow orange with heat as she prepared to unleash fiery devastation upon the Lens. Just as she was about to cast the spell, Endrin stepped to the forefront of the tower and managed to counter her magic, rendering the spell inert. The mage let out a howl of rage which was cut short by Eris’ blade slashing through her. Eris’ strike dismounted the mage and sent her ricocheting off a building below and plummeting to her death. With the Cerberus mage dealt with, the Lens agents had little trouble cleaning up the rest of the griffon riders.
The tower secure for the moment, the party regrouped around Lendis only to find that she still required more time to complete the activation of the nightfall pearl. FCG took a moment to cast some healing spells and take stock of the unfolding conflict in the city below. The Kryn army appeared to be getting pushed back at Nogvurat’s gates, clearly hindered by the faint sunlight still present in the sky above. Just then, the cries of another group of oncoming griffon riders pierced the air. Brett and Cylan assured FCG that they could handle the next wave of enemies and instructed the party to proceed with their mission. FCG hurried down the bell tower and made haste toward the walls of the Aegis Block.
A few minutes later, as unnatural night fell over Nogvurat, FCG arrived at one of the gates. The party came across a group of Kryn soldiers and dunamancers besieged by the Righteous Brand. FCG ran to their aid and joined the fray. Massive bursts of lightning and flame were exchanged on both sides as the battle ensued. FCG quickly found themselves flanked by a mechanical construct of the Empire as well as a griffon rider approaching from the south. Malcolm and Fir engaged the construct while Endrin fled from the rooftops to the relative safety of the streets below. Triple J augmented the party’s arcane resistances with a circle of power while Eris led the charge across the open battle field. A Cerberus Conjurer summoned forth elementals of flame and earth to combat the party, but both found themselves flickering in and out of the material plane as Endrin and Nyx exchanged banishment spells. As FCG cleaned up the enemy forces flanking their backline, they prepared to engage the rest of the Righteous Brand guarding the gate and press forward into the Aegis Block.
