Short Synopsis
The adventurers are commissioned to obtain a scale from an inert dragon located in a desert village. Upon arriving, Fire in Shadow pries free a scale and returns to Parnast. A representative of the Lord’s Alliance attempts to use the dragon’s scale to scry the dragon’s intent, but is unable to do so.
In an attempt to learn more about the mysterious dragon, the representative recruits the band to obtain information on the dragon through the Tome of Guilty Minds. Gold is offered for information, and more gold is offered for the book itself. The tome is held by Kirs Kringle, an extraplanar wizard.
A gate is open to another plane and the adventurers enter to find a large mansion. Fire in Shadow and Talon sneak into the mansion while the others take the open road towards the building. A snowman and some gnomes attack Granny, Shou, Oake and Kedi, but the group subdues them. Meanwhile, Talon tricks Kirs Kringle into leaving the mansion and confronting the main group. Talon and Fire and Shadow take the Tome of Guilty Minds. Meanwhile, the main group persuades Kirs Kringle to let them use the Tome of the Guilty Minds. Realizing that his comrades could be in danger if the tome was missing, Fire in Shadow races to return the book. Kirs Kringle tells the group that the dragon was killed and a gnome wizard attempted to revive and control it. Before leaving, Kirs Kringle hands out a snow globe to those present in the room.
Long Synopsis
Rumors speak of a motionless blue dragon has appeared in a desert village near Parnast. A representative from the Lord’s Alliance offers gold and a magical dagger in exchange for any small part of the dragon. Upon arriving at the village, the party finds the inert dragon surrounded by guards. Oake offers bread to the dragon. Kedi sings a soothing lullaby and notices strange runes etched onto the dragon. Fire in Shadow uses the magical dagger to pry off a scale.
Upon returning to Parnast, the Lord’s Alliance is unable to use the scale to divine the dragon’s intent. The representative explains that the “Tome of Guilty Minds” may provide the information, but the dragon’s scale must be placed onto the book. The tome is in the possession of Kirs Kringle, a powerful wizard who lives in a different plane that connects with the Prime Material Plane for 24 hours on mid-winter’s night. The Lord’s Alliance will pay 750 gold pieces per person for information about the dragon from the tome, and they will pay 1750 gold pieces per person for the tome itself.
Our might adventurers agree and walk through the planar gates. The party sees a winter wonderland:
Penguins talk, Talon’s listening?
In the lane, snow is glistening.
Kedi’s invisible white, there’s danger tonight,
Walking in a winter wonderland.
In the meadow Granny sees a snowman,
Then it whacks the halfling in the crown,
Shou gets attacked by the snowman,
Its carrot goes somewhere kinda brown.
Arriving are gnomes that conspire,
Using volleys of arrows they do fire,
To be unafraid, that’s how Oake’s made,
Walking in a winter wonderland.
While, Granny, Kedi, Oake and Shou deal with the snowman and the gnomes, Fire in Shadow and Talon head towards the mansion at the end of the path:
*Dashing* through the snow,
Ready to go and slay,
Over the hills they go,
Stealthing all the way,
Upon arriving at the mansion, they see the wizard Kirs Kringle working furiously with the Tome of Guilty Minds on his desk:
He’s making his list,
He’s checking it twice,
He’s going to find out who’s naughty and nice.
Talon disguises himself as a gnome to lure Kirs Kringle to the front by exclaiming:
“Fight! Fight! Fight!”
Exasperated, Kirs Kringle goes out to investigate and leaves the tome on his desk. Fire in Shadow and Talon pilfer the book and quickly start making their way back. Talon is thrilled that they are close to being rewarded all that gold.
After subduing the gnomes, the main group finds Kirs Kringle approaching them. Kedi attempts to appease Kirs Kringle, but ultimately Oake’s and Shou’s frank honesty persuades the wizard that it is worthwhile to let them access the tome to learn more about the dragon.
Fire in Shadow realizes that his companions may be in jeopardy if Kirs Kringle finds the tome stolen. Talon stands with mouth agape as Fire in Shadow races back up to the study. The tabaxi returns the book in time. The wizard notices the tabaxi’s presence and invites him in with the others. Upon using the tome, they discover that the dragon is named Iymrith. She had been slain and the gnome wizard Tarmorin from Luskan has attempted to revive and control her. The process has not been completed though. Kirs Kringle bids those in the room farewell, gifting them each with a snow globe with an MSRP of 1000 gold pieces.
