The Derelicts were hired to escort a group of pilgrims on a dangerous journey to the Spine of the World mountains north of Luskan. The pilgrims were searching for a lost temple, believed to hold untold riches and power. The party agreed to take on this job for a share of the treasure.
As they traveled north, they encountered harsh weather conditions and difficult terrain. Despite the challenges, they pressed on, determined to complete the journey. However, they soon learned that the pilgrims were not what they seemed. They were actually cultists, intent on freeing a devil imprisoned in ice.
Upon discovering the truth, the party was torn between stopping the cultists and preventing the release of the devil or going along with the plan and possibly reaping the rewards. After a heated debate, the group finally reached a decision to allow the ritual to proceed.
Just as the ritual was about to begin, they were interrupted by a beholder, an ancient and powerful creature. The beholder demanded to know what was happening and was not pleased with the answer. The party and the beholder came to an agreement. The beholder saw potential in the devil’s release and decided to allow the ritual to proceed as long as all involved promised to leave once it was over.
The ritual was a success, and the devil, Gehenna the Dread Frost, was freed from her icy prison. She promised her liberators a reward if they could make it to Ten Towns, where she would be establishing her frozen reign of tyranny.
