The gang fights an Oni in the Ivy Mansion and goes to the Moon.
MYSTERIES OF THE MAGIC MANSION, Part 2
After exploring the first floor of the mansion, the companions entered the basement, where they stumbled upon a colossal telescope. To their astonishment, peering through it revealed a man having lunch on the moon. Raith and Zoltan discovered the telescope was also a teleportation device and decided to experiment by sending Zoltan’s enslaved earth elemental, The Mountain, to the lunar surface.
Witnessing the success of the experiment, Raith eagerly followed suit, and Zoltan, not wanting to miss the opportunity to walk on the moon, joined them. Krum the dwarven cleric, following Zoltan’s careful instruction, brought them back by reversing the teleportation array. The Mountain was now made of white lunar dust up to its chest.
The man on the moon revealed himself to be none other than Tristan Harpell’s lost uncle Siegfried, the owner of the mysterious mansion. He had been trapped by a malevolent spirit confined behind a locked door in the basement cellar. Expressing gratitude for the companions’ arrival, he bid them farewell and departed to reunite with his nephew.
Exploring further, the companions stumbled upon a lurking malevolence—an Oni of formidable power. Swift and elusive but near defeat after a pitched battle, the Oni managed to evade the heroes, racing up the stairs and sealing the companions within the cellar behind the locked metal door.
Raith shattered their imprisonment with a Knock spell and the heroes found Siegfried Harpell working on his telescope. He claimed he hadn’t seen the Oni pass through. Zoltan was suspicious.
He quizzed Siegfried on which companions had gone to the moon, and after receiving an incorrect answer, swiftly denounced him as an imposter and blasted him with his wand of magic missiles. Screaming in agony, the creature reverted to its primal form as an Oni and died.
With the mansion clear the companions went off to find the Tristan Harpell and claim their reward.
